who we are
sarah hogarth
I have always been drawn to other people’s stories and this is reflected in the theatre that I make. When I was a kid I was always happiest sat listening to the grownups talking, fascinated by their stories of the everyday, the detail they included, their ability to build tension with every word, to hold the attention of their audience around the table and the roar of laughter, as a punch line is delivered. And I would fall asleep on someone’s knee whilst listening to these familiar voices, occasionally jolted awake as the room erupted with laughter again. This feeling of connection, warmth and safety is what I want our audiences and participants to feel, especially when we are tackling challenging subjects, it is important that they feel like they belong. I am interested in authentic and meaningful participation and want the conversations between our audiences to feel like a Friday night round at my house, fluid, honest and spontaneous. I like the space I work in to be playful and fun and that’s why I love working with Emma because she knows how to play and makes me belly laugh a 100 times a day

I am really interested in the messy business of what it means to be human and how we live alongside and together in this ever changing world. I like the eye of a storm and am comfortable in this space. I am fascinated by deep, hard, nuanced questions where there is no right or wrong, just messiness...a bit like the cakes I bake. I like to make theatre that invites audiences to sit in the unknown, to make the space and place where we can sit together and ask questions. To ponder alongside the audience. I come from a background of applied theatre and community work so my theatre reflects this in terms of its content, it’s subject but also the careful planning for meaningful and safe participation. The ethics of the process are hugely important to me and as much care is taken in the process as is the product. Saying that, I’m obsessed with things being beautiful (not pretty) as well as sequences and structures. I love and thrive in creative chaos and I think the work that I create shows this. The best work I do comes through collaboration and the best stuff I make is always with Sarah.

graham kay
Graham is the master behind all of our films. We love his work because he has a gentle quality which we think resonates with a lot of our work and our aims as a company. He always knows exactly the right questions to ask the audiences and makes them feel comfortable to share their experiences. We also love that we don’t even need to really talk to him because he just knows, as the best collaborators do, what he needs to do and what he needs to film. We adore how he captures our work with a such tenderness of touch.

Stephen Hull
Stephen Hull is a total sound wizard. He has elevated much of our work from an idea to a fully formed piece and stretched our ideas further through his understanding and imagination of how sound can be used to immerse people into other worlds. He not only has rigorous attention to detail but also a nuanced artistry to sound which stretches from the sound design, original composition, foley work and on some occasions live mixing of the sound. We love how he challenges us to think of new ways to reach audiences and always delivers more than we imagined possible.
