‘Oi! Men! Yes, You. Straight men. The ship is setting sail and needs you aboard! We can’t guarantee a safe journey, the winds are getting stronger, the waves are swelling, and a storm is brewing on the old sea of misogyny.

This journey is for you but it’s about us, women. It’s about our unsafe spaces, our fears, your unwanted dick pics, approaches, harassment, and your responsibility.  Will it be lairy? Yes. Will it be lady-like? Hell no! Girls bring your fellas, you husbands, partners, mates, brothers, sons, dads as we get to grip with this giant and humongous wave.

This performance has been created and devised by a collective of brilliant female artists from the Northwest.”

Unsolicited was performed at The Royal Court Theatre January 2023 to a sell out audience. It is available for touring in Spring 2024.

"There are biting sketches about male gaze and internalised misogyny, cutting commentary on how women are told to stay safe (at a moment of danger the automated message on the help line reels off the empty guidance to flag down a bus), talking vulvas, perfume advert parodies which highlight misogynoir, mansplaining fish and a sketch about hysteria that culminates in one of the evening’s most unsettling moments.

The women in the audience sit and see themselves reflected on stage, their need to respond is palpable, and there are audible reactions as they recognise the direction a scene is taking."

“The play made me think about my conduct towards women. Ive always had this code that I’m not physically abusive towards them so Im sound. However over the years Ive made some off the cuff remarks which i classed as banter. And it wasn’t. I get that.”

“I have a big circle of friends and have two brothers aswell as a 22 year old son who i will be voicing my newly found opinions across to them on how woman should actually be treated and not basically “abused”
